Creepy Lego Victorian Houses by Mike Doyle

In his series Abandoned Houses, artist Mike Doyle created three spooky abandoned Victorian houses out of LEGO bricks: the TwoStory with Basement, the Three Story Victorian with Tree and his latest, Lego: Victorian on Mud Heap. His blog contains quite a bit of information and photos on how he made each of these fantastic pieces. See more of Mike’s work in his Flickr stream.
For me, this piece speaks to the inherent unpredictability of those things which we call our foundation. Like a little dollhouse, a seemingly secure home is plucked up and set on a new path. This charming home, lovingly embellished with ornamental fancy was no match for nature. The fancy embellishments serve as a reminder of our earlier focus on the material world, while the aftermath removes us from that focus. The piece offers no answers or necessarily any hope, but rather points to life’s fragility.

Incredible Photos of Montserrat's Exclusion Zone

In 1995, the city of Plymouth on the island of Montserrat was evacuated and an exclusion zone was set up because of an impending volcano eruption. In 1997, the volcano erupted burying the city in 40 feet of ash. Ever since, residents have been banned from coming back. Here are some pretty crazy pictures inside Montserrat's exclusion zone, one of only a handful of exclusion zones in the world. More info here.
